Meet our Chef – Executive Chef Tom Flavin

1_0094_EWith over 20 years experience in the hospitality industry Tom started his career in Manila where his flare for impressionable presentation of food was born through his vegetable and ice carving training.   Prior to returning to Ireland in 1999 Tom spent time in Singapore, the UK and Australia in a variety of 5* hotel kitchens and fine dining restaurants overseeing banqueting kitchens.  This gave Tom his extensive knowledge of International fine dining cuisine

Tom a native of Ardagh Co. Limerick has spent over 10 years in Limerick as an Executive Chef arriving at the Strand Hotel in 2007.  During the 10 years he has gained much media attention due to his personable nature and understanding of clients forever changing expectations of food offerings, he has had numerous appearances on TV, Radio and in hospitality publications.

Tom Flavin and his culinary team pride in serving the finest quality of Irish and international cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal produce with all the food traceable and where possible an emphasis on using locally produced products.

Tom is a strong advocate and active supporter of Local Producers, Tom insists on using as much locally sourced produce as possible in all menus at the 4* Limerick Strand Hotel. This passion has gained Tom the accolade of being a Failte Ireland National Food Ambassador for 2016

Their extensive breakfast menu includes: Full Irish breakfast, a continental selection including cold meats and Irish cheese platter along with their own in-house bakery selection making their own breads and muffins daily.  In addition they have a multi-award winning ‘The Strand Pantry Range’ including homemade chutneys and jams. In addition their recently added ‘Chef’s Station’ has proven very popular with guests with the chef on-hand to freshly prepare egg dishes including delicious pancakes, omelettes and egg’s Benedict.
